Wikileaks website on the search for a home after being kicked out by Amazon
Much publicised website Wikileaks, who have been the topic of discussion throughout the world with recent links regarding US Military and Political top level information, are currently on the lookout for a place to stay are recent denial of service (DDoS) attacks forced the site to move from its current hosting server to Amazon’s EC2 cloud service who in turn have cut off their hosting.
The publicity for the whistle blowing website, launched in December 2006, seemed to have worked for and against Wikileaks with their number of daily hits hitting its peak in December 2010 but it would seem there are many people who do not want the website to continue to release its leaks.
Government Pressure
After transferring the hosting to Amazon, the US company succumbed to pressure from the US government to cut off internet users looking for the site by refusing to acknowledge data requests.
Joe Lieberman, a senator and chairman of the homeland security committee, said: "[Amazon's] decision to cut off WikiLeaks now is the right decision and should set the standard for other companies WikiLeaks is using to distribute its illegally seized material".
"I call on any other company or organisation that is hosting WikiLeaks to immediately terminate its relationship with them." He continued.
Now Wikileaks will turn to Europe to host it website after WikiLeaks tweeted in response:
"WikiLeaks servers at Amazon ousted. Free speech the land of the free – fine our $ are now spent to employ people in Europe."
